Captain James Cook

Captain Cook was a was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer, and a captain in the Royal Navy.

Captain Cook Death

the Hawaiian Islanders who killed Captain Cook were not cannibals. They believed that the power of
a man was in his bones, so they cooked different part of his body to enable the bones to be easily
removed.

Childhood

James Cook was born in England, on October 27, 1728,Captain James Cook is the son of a Scottish
farmhand.

As a teenager, Captain Cook did farming work with his father until the age of 18. He was offered an
apprenticeship by a Quaker shipowner in a small seaside village near England Where he was brought
up.

Before Captain Cook came to New Zealand

Before Captain Cook arrived in New Zealand Maori did not have any guns, clothes or devices.

When Europeans arrived every part of the country was divided among the iwi .When the europeans
arrived maori had already been in aotearoa for more than five hundred years.

First Encounters

For almost 130 years Europeans and Maori didn’t  have any contact with each other. Then on the 8th
of October in 1769 James Cook and others landed on the east side of the Turanganui River.

After Europeans arrived

Hone Heke a Ngapuhi chief was a proud leader. He had been the first maori chief to sign the treaty
 hoping it would benefit his people.

Rongowhakaata chief Te Rakau was killed by the Endeavour’s  and others were wounded.

New zealand wars were fought between 1845 and 1872.

• Using the stars and sky maps
• Using ocean currents
• Using birds to navigate. If near land it would fly towards it, if land was not near it would fly back to the boat.
• Using a stick chart - curves and straight lines represent the waves and how it moves. Shells on the chart would show where islands were.
• Using the sun - rises in the east and sets in the west

• In the northern hemisphere, they use the north star to navigate. It shows the north direction.
• Find the southern cross, use your fingers to draw a line from the 2 stars (longest distance apart). Extend the line about 4.5 time more. Draw a line straight down to the horizon and this is due south. East to your left, west to your right, north behind you.

• Now you could call a friend and have them tell you the star that is directly above them, then follow that star in that direction.

Purpose: To retell a small part of a personal event (just a small moment in time)

Title:. A Time in war.
Orientation/Beginning: Describes who, what, when, where and how.	Today is April 25 , World War 1 1914 . My boots are wet and soggy. Bruises on my arms and legs, pain from all the shooting. Soldiers with sore shoulders from holding the heavy guns to help fight for their  countries, soldiers dying.
Body:. Sequence of events - describe what happened in the order that they occurred.	Running to the trenches seeing my friends dead on the ground. Sitting in the dark and cold trenches that are muddy and uncomfortable, crying but knowing that I have to keep fighting even though I am wounded and hurt. Dead bodies lying on the ground. Almost passing out  from the smell cause it is so powerful. Trying to help carry the wounded people back to the base through all of the blood. 734 people mostly died through disease that is spread through these trenches.The  War had lasting effects as it killed so many people and some people suffered from pain.
Conclusion: Personal comment - how did you feel about it or what you thought.	The when war was finally finished it was time to go home when I got home I ran to my family and  they gave me the biggest hug. I had ever gotten.

Kia ora my name is Deeny and i go to kawakawa primary school. Today my class and i had to describe a object that we got out of a school kit i got a Minnie teddy bear.All we had to do was get all the words we use to describe to object and make a poem her is mine.

Watching kapa haka 20 minute writing

Title : Watching Kapa haka

On Saturday my papa and i went to whangarae to watch te rau po manawa o kawakawa and whangarei
intermediate do their kapa haka performance. When we got there we couldn't find a park. We were driving
around for awhile until this man said “just park on the grass” so we went and drove on to the grass and
walked around we saw some stalls their but my papa just wanted to watch kapa haka so we went over
to get our yellow wrist bands to put on so we could enter the building. When we got inside the building
my papa and i walked around to look for a seat. Finally we found one next to my uncle his name was
Henry he is Zowen dad. We watched the first performance it was cool and loud the the
second kapa haka group walked on to the stage. It was whangarei intermediate one of my cousins
were in it and he was the tall one in the back if you would like o watch it the you can go to te hiku
media and type in the search bar whangarei intermediate.  When te rau po manawa o kawakawa came
on stage everyone started to cheer the they performed if you would like to see their performance go to te
hiku media and type in the search bar Te rau po manawa o kawakawa and you will see them they are
very cool

Rm 5 and 6 Assembly

On Friday the 2 of November my class and i had a Assembly and we done it in Halloween style because we had a Halloween disco in 7 hours. during our Halloween Assembly we did Te-Reo selfies if you are wondering what a Te-reo selfie is it is like this Te-reo selfie example  and for the next one we did this  dance and this dance it was fun doing our Assembly because we sang a song and we danced and it was really fun making our masks we only 2 days to get this together and make it cool like Halloween and yeah it was so much fun .

fun run

Last week on Friday me and the rest of Kawakawa primary school had a fun run day. At the united rugby grounds. The fun run is just like cross country but it's way more fun and you get to do obstacles courses and get colored powder thrown at you. We also had to be in our house colors so we could get 10 pt if any family members run with us the the whole group would get 500 pt.  I ran with my age level witch was 9 year old I had come 1st place out of a little bit of girls .

My maths eyes

This is my math that I did this week it was a easy it wasn't challenging because it was a warm up activity for me just to warm my brain up so I could get the real hard problems that I have to figure out.So what I had to do was that I had to look at a simple photo that I took and made questions and what I can see as a math shape and etc.I hope you enjoy!!

reading activity

This week in reading we have been learning to sum arise information and putting it in to our own words .sum arise is when you find the main  ideas and write them in to your own ideas.

I find it sum arising hard because its hard to put it into my own words.The book we read was about  3 squander by John Bonallack i enjoyed this book because it showed us information about how helicopters work and danger spots we didn't know about.My task was to create a google drawing  about how a helicopter works, I found this easy/hard because i haven't seen these words and

My next learning step is is to write what i said and put it into my own words.
