• Using the stars and sky maps
• Using ocean currents
• Using birds to navigate. If near land it would fly towards it, if land was not near it would fly back to the boat.
• Using a stick chart - curves and straight lines represent the waves and how it moves. Shells on the chart would show where islands were.
• Using the sun - rises in the east and sets in the west

• In the northern hemisphere, they use the north star to navigate. It shows the north direction.
• Find the southern cross, use your fingers to draw a line from the 2 stars (longest distance apart). Extend the line about 4.5 time more. Draw a line straight down to the horizon and this is due south. East to your left, west to your right, north behind you.

• Now you could call a friend and have them tell you the star that is directly above them, then follow that star in that direction.

Deeny’s Fictional Recount writing

Deeny’s Fictional Recount Scaffold
Purpose: To retell a small part of a personal event (just a small moment in time)

Title:. A Time in war.
Orientation/Beginning: Describes who, what, when, where and how.	Today is April 25 , World War 1 1914 . My boots are wet and soggy. Bruises on my arms and legs, pain from all the shooting. Soldiers with sore shoulders from holding the heavy guns to help fight for their  countries, soldiers dying.
Body:. Sequence of events - describe what happened in the order that they occurred.	Running to the trenches seeing my friends dead on the ground. Sitting in the dark and cold trenches that are muddy and uncomfortable, crying but knowing that I have to keep fighting even though I am wounded and hurt. Dead bodies lying on the ground. Almost passing out  from the smell cause it is so powerful. Trying to help carry the wounded people back to the base through all of the blood. 734 people mostly died through disease that is spread through these trenches.The  War had lasting effects as it killed so many people and some people suffered from pain.
Conclusion: Personal comment - how did you feel about it or what you thought.	The when war was finally finished it was time to go home when I got home I ran to my family and  they gave me the biggest hug. I had ever gotten.

20 minute free writing about my weekend

Every Monday morning we get to write for 20 minutes about anything w.e want to write about it can be false or true I am going to write about the wananga.

On Saturday morning I wen't to netball. When I finished netball Ebony and I went to go look for Coopers mum because she was going to take us back to moerewa. But we couldn't fined her so we wen't with Whaea Jess. When we got back to moerewa Whaea Jess dropped us off at Ebonys house. Then I quickly ran home to get my stuff ready for the wananga. When I got home I quickly had a shower then I got changed then took all my stuff and put it in the car. And waited for Hirini to hurry up then we went to go pick up Ebony from her house then wen't to school. When we got to school most of TRPM o KawaKawa were already doing a run through by the time we got there they were almost done then when we split in to groups like the boys in the marae learning the haka and the girls in the hall learning the poi when the first block was finished we went for afternoon tea it was very yum then we went back to poi in the hall once we all got the actions Whaea Jazz started to move us in to a triangle

to do the poi it was sore becaise you had to go down on your knees and up and we had to practices the for ahwile then when that was done the boys came back to the hall and we had to show horace what us girls learn't with Whaea Jazz and the boys had to show Whaea Jazz what they learn't after that we all wen't to go have dinner

it was delicious then we had showers and supper then we all had to go to bed .

That was all i could write in 20 minutes.

20 minute free writing about the disco on friday

.Every Monday morning we get to write for 20 minutes about anything w.e want to write about it can be false or true i am going to write about the disco on Friday

On Friday after school when i got home i quickly had a shower the i went in to my room got changed. In to the clothes my Nan chose and then we went to Matua Horrace

house came back to get Hirini. So we could go to the disco he got ready the we got in the car and went to KawaKawa to wash the bus. For some money to go to the disco

when we got there we were just playing at kohatu then miss came down to the hall and we all had to go outside and wit until 6:00. when it was 6:00 So we came in i quickly paid got my tickets and a smiley face on my hand. And got a cup cake and went to go fined Ebony and my friends the we took lots of pictures and posted them on Instagram 

when it was 7:00 we started to play spin the bottle if the bottle landed on you first then you would have to get the second person something we kept playing that untill we dint want to the we started doing hug, hi five, and no not kiss but yeah that was my disco 

and at the end we did a haka of agist the boys so it was boys vs girls it was so fun untill we had to clean up the go home have a shower because we all stinked from runing around and dancing 

and yeah that was like one of the coolest disco and yeah.

 NETBALL

In the weekend on a nice Saturday morning i had a netball game.

So i woke up had my healthy breakfast and got all my gears on then jumped in to the car. After we left the house my nan droped me off at Ebonys house. So i could go to net ball with her. when i got to Ebonys house i ran inside to say hello to the babies Tumanako and Waiariki. Then Ebony and i had a cup of tea and biscuits it was delicious then we finished our tea and biscuits and hoped in the car. And played on aunty Diddee's phone and went on to snap chat and Instagram then we got to kawakawa for her mums medicine at the chemist while she was at the chemist Ebony and i we for a tiki tour. Down town to look for our favorite drink

first we went to the vip not there then the 4 square not there jvr not there so we went back the the chemist asked Devean she said "try looking at the gas station" so we ran there  as fast as we could and "few" it was there then we left to go to netball. what a day.
