Reflection on 2021

Print allIn new window

Some of the highest points I had this year was when lockdown started because i got to stay home and not go to school .

Starting at college was a high for me because it is way more fun then I thought it would be and making new friends i also

got to see some of my old friends from kohanga .

Some of the lowest points were when covid-19 kept coming back because It stopped some trips and stopped families coming into school for prizegiving. All the restrictions that came from covid was a low for me. I did not bring my chromebook enough this year which made me get detentions which was a low. My goal for year 10 is to always bring

my chromebook, to settle in fast, stop talking to much and to arrive to class on time, and attend all of my classes and

not bunk them and another goal is to be responsible and organised.

consumerism

Today we watched a animated video about consumerism in one of our social studies classes. so if you don't know consumerism is a social and economic order that encourages the acquisition of goods and services in increasing amounts. Consumerism encourages purchasing and consumption of goods and services in excess of a person's basic needs. In a consumerist society people are bombarded by adverts discount product launches product giveaways among many other promotions meant to encourage constant and significant spending on goods and services. Therefore consumerism allows people greater access to the goods and services that improve their lives. The final point for the positives of consumerism is that it generally increases people's quality of life. By helping people meet these needs consumerism has improved the lives of many people.

Film Study

We are learning about film study and different types of camera shots. So far we have learnt about different types of camera shots, different camera angles emphasise different things, an establishing shot shows the set with no people to set the scene. We used 3 things to make a film type using dialogue, music and props we took photos of each other from different types of angles.

(close up,CU) (mid shot, MS) (long shot,LS)

(extreme close up,MCU) (mid shot,MS) (establishing shot)

the importance of being a good friend

Deenys Explain

Title: How to be a good friend.

  • Trustworthy and Honesty.

  • How they help in the future.

  • How to be a good friend.

(How to be a good friend/How they help in the future)

Being a good friend to me means sticking up  for them. I believe being a good friend will help you in life because they will help you with your confidence and also be a good friend to other people you meet...

(Trustworthy and Honesty)

Being nice to other people will get you far in life, being kind will get you to where you wanna go. Being able to have trust and confidence in your friend is one of the most important requirements of a strong relationship because true friendship means you are able to count on one another…

Part of caring for a friend is honoring what they tell you, no matter the significance, with confidentiality and respect. Good friends are loyal and accept you for who you are during the good and bad times. Good friends are also honest and they are  honest enough to tell you when you're not being a good friend yourself...

Along with good friends who are present, loyal, and honest, most people want friends who are trustworthy..

A Māori tradition that helps
heal people.
History of rongoa
It was a sacred skill,
passed down from
a tohunga pu (expert)
Māori were ravaged by
  the arrival of European
diseases like measles
and influenza.
Unlike pakeha the
Māori went to
the rongoa native
/natural healing
plant. As they may
call it a traditional
maori healing plant.
When banned from
practicing rongoa
- they practiced in secret.
How is rongoa used
Through karakia/chants
Using herbs or native plants
Today there is a
resurgence
of interest and
awareness in rongoa.
New zealand native

by both maori and by
early european settlers
for their unique healing

Having a good
knowledge of animals,

Nature, knowledge
passed down through
generations.
What are common
plants used
and how do they
help?
( select 2-3)
Manuka - burns, as a
sedative, to heal skin
disease.

Kumarahou
- to heal coughs.
European influence
on rongoa.
They brought diseases
that Maori couldn’t fix
as they didn’t have them,
such as flu, measles and
fevers.

They brought diseases
that Maori couldn’t fix
- but maori kept trying.
They banned the use of
tohuna and rongoa
because they
thought tohunga had
supernatural powers.
Using rongoa in the
modern world
Science has proved that these
plants have the healing
powers that rongoa suggests.

Rongoa making a comeback.
Wanting it to be used alongside
european/modern medicine.
